Facelift - Midface-lift Cosmetic Surgery

With ageing, the skin looses its elasticity and stretches. In the face, this produces skin creases and folds, jowls and loose skin, and fat in the neck. Several types of facelift procedures can relieve these ageing features, by removal of excess skin, suspension of the underlying muscles (SMAS) and rebuilding the supporting ligamentous structures for long lasting improvement. The mid facelift is most suitable for women in their early to mid forties whose neck is still in good condition.

The mid-facelift rejuvenates the central section of the face from the lower eyelid to the upper lip, by repositioning sagging tissues and enhancing the volume of soft tissue that is lost in the mid-face with age, sun exposure, and gravity.

A variety of other procedures can further enhance the outcome of a mid-facelift. They include:
  • Facial implants
  • Soft tissue augmentation to re-contour the facial structure
  • Resurfacing techniques to improve the tone and texture of facial skin
  • Wrinkle reduction by injection

The patient's head will be wrapped in a bulky bandage immediately following surgery to promote the best molding and healing. The ears may throb or ache a little for a few days, but this can be relieved by medication. Within a few days, the bulky bandages will be replaced by a lighter head dressing similar to a headband.

You must note

As a restorative surgery, a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process. The texture and quality of the skin will not be changed or altered by a facelift surgery. Acne scars, age spots, fine lines and smoker’s creases will soon return to their original consistency, no matter how tight the skin is pulled. A facelift will not provide someone beautiful skin unless they have beautiful skin to begin with.A range of non-surgical cosmetic procedures are available to improve texture and appearance of skin like laser resurfacing, IPL or microdermabrasion.

Possible risks and complications of othoplasty surgery

When mid-face lift is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor. As with any operation, there are risks associated with a facelift/ mid-face lift, such as reactions to the anaesthetic, haematoma. Insignificant asymmetry may be occurred. Injury to the nerves that control facial muscles is usually only temporary, but can result in numbness to some areas of the face. Operation scars are permanent. They do fade over time and are usually hardly noticeable, as they are often hidden, either by your hair or the natural creases in your skin. You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon's instructions both before and after surgery. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can only be determined at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.

After care

After cosmetic surgery as the anesthesia wears off - your face may ache, and you may have a dull headache. You can control any discomfort with the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. Your face may feel tight and sore , but you can control any discomfort with the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. If you feel any severe pain, call your surgeon immediately. Plan on staying in bed with your head elevated (except for going to the bathroom) for the first day.

The swelling and bruising around your face will increase at first, reaching a peak after two or three days. Applying cold compresses will reduce this swelling and make you feel better. Most of the swelling and bruising should disappear within two weeks or so. (Some subtle swelling-unnoticeable to anyone but you and your surgeon-will remain for several months.Usually more strenuous activities may be resumed after three weeks. Your surgeon will let you know when you are ready for exercise.During your healing period avoid drinking alcohol, which can lead to fluid retention and delay recovery.

The results after the mid-face surgery will be long-lasting. Life-long sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. In addition, a healthy lifestyle will also help extend the results of your rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.
