Reconstructive Breast Asymmetry Surgery |
Most women have some degree of asymmetry between their breasts. It is normal for some variation to exist between the basic shape and position of the breasts on each side of the chest. Usually, these differences are so minimal as to cause little or no concern. However, there are cases where the difference can be substantial enough to cause both a physical stress and plenty emotional problems.
Breast asymmetry plastic surgery uses one or a combination of techniques to bring better balance to the breasts. Breast asymmetry surgery corrects a difference in the size and shape of the breast and improve the nipple position.

The nature of the surgical approach to this problem varies from -It may involve:
- Augmenting (enlarging) one or both breasts using different sized implants
- Reducing the size of one or both breasts
- Increasing the size of one breast and reducing the size of the other breast
- placing an implant (breast augmentation) in the smaller breast to match the size of the larger breast
- reducing the size of the larger breast with breast reduction surgery or breast liposuction to match the smaller breast
- inserting implants of different sizes to achieve symmetry
- performing a breast lift with or without implants
Reconstructive Breast Surgery or Breast Asymmetry Surgery needs to be individualised according to the cause and degree of the problem.

Possible risks and complications after the platic surgery
Breast asymmetry correction is a major invasive plastic surgery. When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, one trained in body contouring, the results are normally very satisfactory. However, as with all surgical procedures, there are some risks associated with breast asymmetry correction . There are also specific complications associated with the procedure. These include: infection, nipple asymmetry and poor healing, which can result in heavy scarring. Infection can be treated with antibiotics and drainage. You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon's instructions both before and after plastic surgery. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can only be determined at the time of consultation. All plastic and cosmetic surgical procedures have some degree of risk.
After care of Reconstructive Breast Surgery - Breast Asymmetry Surgery
After the plastic surgery you may be swollen and in pain, which can be controlled by medication. Depending upon the type of surgery performed, you may be remain hospitalized for up to 2 days. Your doctor will give you instructions in your post-operative care.If you feel any severe pain, call your surgeon immediately. Most of the swelling and bruising should disappear within two weeks or so.Your surgeon will let you know when you are ready for exercise. During your healing period avoid drinking alcohol, which can lead to fluid retention and delay recovery.
Results
Most patients are extremely happy with breast asymmetry correction. There is a certain amount of increased self esteem and self confidence which may result.The degree of improvement varies from patient to patient.
